When I drive there is a squeaky brake sound! Also squeaky when actually braking...very embarrassing and loud! Do I need new brakes? Could it be anything else?

Luz,
I suggest you have a four wheel brake inspection, you may need to have your brake pads replaced and your rotors resurfaced.
Certain brands of cars will squeek when your foot is OFF the brake to indicate the need for brake repairs. It can be brake dust causing the noise as well. But, if you have driven 25,000 miles or more on this set of brake pads you may be due for replacement pads. Check with a qualified brake repair shop.
Hello Luz- more than likely that is the wear indicator on your brake pads- you should have them inspected & replaced soon as possible before you damage the brake rotors- thanks Super Girls Auto.
Luz~
Squeaks are truly embarrassing & the fear-factor of the possibly not being able too stop is dangerous!
Have your mechanic take a peek at them, this will require him to take the tires off...and getting in there. They'll check for how much wear you have left on the pad, making sure the pad is secure in the caliper, foreign items caught in the area, may just need the rotors resurfaced as they may be glazed, build up of brake dust & area needs cleaned, replace items in the caliper, backing plates, etc. I've thrown out some:
"what it could be?"
As you can see, this takes a professional to really knows what they are looking at~ do yourself a favor and take it in to a TRUSTED & certified mechanic. This doesn't have to be painful and could be a quick easy FIX...

Luz,
It*s possible that you just have a high spot on your rotor and it needs to be resurfaced. However, there are other components that can also make a squeaking sound. It is best to have this issue looked at by a qualified ASE certified technician that can listen to the sound in person and make the correct diagnosis. Being that it may be a brake issue, I do suggest you have it checked out as soon as possible.
