I have a 97 jeep grand Cherokee...it tends to turn off in the middle of driving ...usually when it comes to a stop. It failed the readiness in the emissions test....what could the problem be?

Tammy,
Typically these driving conditions will have a tendency to set a check engine light, especially in a serious drivability concern. In the case you have a check engine light set, you can visit your local auto parts store for a free reading and reset.
To address the choke out in a drive cycle this behavior can be cause by many different types of faults. Such action seems to act like an Idle Air Control Valve, or an EGR valve.
