I am considering a purchase of a 2007 Mercury Mariner. It has 22k miles. The dealer is offering a lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission. What would be a fair price to pay? What are some questions you suggest I ask?

Brandy Schaffels, Editor at, Inc. I cannot give you specific advice on pricing, but I can point you to resources to help you find other cars that might help you see the prices for comparable cars. If the dealer is giving you a lifetime warranty on the powertrain, that is a definite plus, because you will be protected if the car had been abused by its previous owner. Use to review and compare used car pricing and value for similar vehicles.

Karen Salvaggio, Owner - Professional Race Car Driver at Thunder Valley Racing Hi LaJune, A quick search indicates that there are lots of Mariners on the market. While I do not own one, the reviews are favorable, and as I read about the Mariner, it made me want to take a closer look at this vehicle. Here are some consumer reports and feedback from folks who own a 2007 Mariner: First SUV and love it! Written by: Mercury on 02/07/2009 Detailed Ratings Overall Rating Performance: 10 Fun-to-Drive: 9 Build Quality: 9 Comfort: 10 Interior Design: 10 Reliability: 10 Fuel Economy: 6 Exterior Design: 9 Vehicle 2007 Mercury Mariner Premier 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl 4A) Review Its my first SUV and I think I made the right choice. We looked at alot and ended up choosing the Mercury. I love it. I*ve only had it 2 months but we had alot of snow in those 2 months and it handles great. Which is one of the reasons I wanted 4WD. I haven*t had any problems at all with the vehicle. Favorite Features I love the heated leather seats in the winter!! The 4WD is great. I work in healthcare and no matter how much snow I have to go to work. We got 12 inch of snow like 2 days after I bought the vehicle and I had no problems getting to work. Start and stop was perfect. I also love the stereo system. Suggested Improvements The gas mileage could be better. Vehicle 2007 Mercury Mariner Premier 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl 4A) Review Sadly, I only had my Mariner for 3 months when I was in an accident and totaled it. Luckily, I walked away with no injuries, which is why I will be purchasing one again. I*ve never felt more safe in this vehicle. Very comfortable and smooth ride. I loved the extra*s: Reverse Assistance, information system, stock AMP, heated leather seats, moonroof, keyless entry. Favorite Features AWD, remove-able cup holders, premium sound system. The SUV has great get-up-and-go, and is very easy to drive, in any road condition. The back seats fold down with little effort, and the headlights/fog lights were great! Suggested Improvements Thermostat controls on the heated seats. AUX input. Better MPG, but with a V6, 20 MPG isn*t too bad. These were the available Consumer Reports ratings on the 2005 Mariner: (on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being high) User Reviews 8.4 Overall Rating 9.3 Styling 9.0 Performance 8.5 Interior 7.2 Quality 8.2 Recommendation Bottom line.....Prices range from $13,000 - $18,000 at dealerships, and buying from a private party could be less. The lifetime warranty on engine and trans are good things, but read the fine print and make sure there are no exclusions or hitches... I would look for one with all the options, in excellent condition, and pay no more than $11,000 for it...Remember, cars are a dime a dozen today and as soon as you own it, then it is your equity!!!! Good luck with your search! Dr. Karen Salvaggio Factory Five Racing #28
