Hi, we bought our Prius 2007, and we have already maintained it once. Now the signal on the dash board is telling us it is already time again! The car works fine and maintenance costs over 100 dollars. What happens if we ignore it? Does it really need to be checked that often?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Annika, You have a maintenance required light that appears every time you need to change the oil which is about every 5k miles on the Prius. You can check in your owners manual on how to reset that light yourself. The only reason the maintenance required light appears is to relay that you are due for an oil change. AJ Pierce

Amanda Wetherill Holmes, Parts and Service Director and Vice President of Operations at Devon Hill BMW Annika, You should take the car into your Toyota dealer and see what the car needs. The light could be faulty but the dealer is the only one that can reset the light. Or you could be due for service. You should not ignore a light on your dashboard you should always take it to your dealer to find out what your car needs. Cheers, Amanda

Donna Burmeister, Service Manager at Classic Nissan Yes, you must maintain your vehicle or it will void the warranty. Keep all your records.
