I just bought a Jeep Patriot about 4 months ago. The brakes started squeaking when I back up last month. Now they squeak when applied going forward. I took the car into the dealer and was told "some vehicles brakes just squeak." Does not sound right to me. Is it?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amy Mattinat, Owner and Author at Auto Craftsmen Ltd "some vehicles brakes just squeak" well, yes and no. cheap brake pads and rotors can be squeaky, but worn out brakes can also squeak. I would take your jeep to an independent repair shop for a second opinion. Depending on where you live, a brake diagnosis should run you $35 - $50. If the brakes need work and it is part of a warranty you received when you purchased the Jeep, then ask the shop to take digital pictures (offer the use of your camera if they don't have one) and take your jeep and pictures back to the dealership. If the brakes are "just squeaky" then you will have piece of mind. All My Best, Amy Mattinat
