This is a follow-up to a question I posted a couple of months ago. I am the original owner of a 95 Toyota Camry LE with only 45,000 miles on it. In the last six months or so (and perhaps coincidentally, right after I'd had the timing belt replaced), it has started doing a weird thing. Around town and on short hops on the freeway, it runs fine. But when I drive more than 15 miles on the freeway and then get off and stop at the first light, the car shudders and the engine dies (with all the dashboard lights going on and the car rolling without the power steering working). It then dies each and every time I stop again. After I park and do whatever errand I'm on, the car starts right up and won't stall again unless the same scenario occurs. But if I get off the freeway and hit every light right and don't have to stop (if I hit every green light), it's fine. I've had the IAC valve replaced and the thermostat, and the radiator has been flushed and refilled several times since it's been sludge-y, and that hasn't solved the problem. My internet research indicates it might be the EGR valve, but my own mechanics and a few others I spoke to don't think this is the problem. Since I almost ran over a little boy who scampered in front of my car in a parking lot just as my car died for the 3rd time in a row after I'd gotten off the freeway last week (and fortunately his father grabbed him in time) and given that the previous time this happened I was almost killed by merging traffic, clearly this is a problem that needs to be fixed. The auto repair shops I've called seem to have little if any clue about what might be causing this problem. Help!

Suzanne Grego, Technician at City of Philadelphia Fleet Management Marilyn Edelstien, This problem sounds like it is going to need to be looked at for diagnosis. I suggest you bring the vehicle to a qualified technician that will keep the car and drive it until they experience the problem first hand. It may take a little patience, but seeing as this is a safety hazard, it will be worth it to have it diagnosed and repaired correctly. Suzanne
