My 1989 F150, will not run right, after I had ran it out of gas. Its not the fuel line, we changed the main filter, and did a electrical test on the pump, you can hear it engaging, it will start and run but when the accelerator is pressed it basically chokes itself out. Any advise?
Dirt and debris tend to settle at the bottom of fuel tanks. When a vehicle is run when the gas is very low- or worse, until there is no gas left- everything in the bottom of the tank tends to get sucked through the fuel system. The next thing I would check would be the fuel injectors. They could be clogged and need replacement. You should probably check fuel pressure as well.
