Car started making a humming noise when the car was at a stop sign or otherwise stopped. As soon as speed was resumed, the sound went away. Most of the time it dies unless the gas peddle is pressed. It starts again immediately when gear is put into neutral, and ignition is turned on.Took it into the Lincoln dealer and diagnostic tests were done, and nothing showed up. Was told the mechanic would need to hear it before he would know what it was.The sound is beginning to occur sporadically while the car is in motion, but does not die.THOUGHTS?

Suzanne Grego, Technician at City of Philadelphia Fleet Management Mary Hill, Just like the technician, I would have to hear it to be sure. I could suggest that maybe an engine mount is cracked and causing vibration. This usually is a noise that you would hear more at idle. Depending on where the mount is located, it usually is not that huge of a job and even better news, the part should not be too expensive. It is a good idea to have this checked out as soon as you can. Good luck! Suzanne
