A cherry picker, or engine hoist is used to pull an engine out from the top of the vehicle. Transmissions are removed from the underside of the vehicle. You will need a transmission jack. It's basically a jack that once the transmission is on it, can be lowered to help with the weight of the transmission.
This means that the vehicle must be in the air on a lift to remove the transmission.
