I had accidentally driven about 2 miles (slow speed) with the parking brake on. Then I noticed the Check Engine light came on. I checked the manual, gas cap is not loose, fuel is not low, it says to drive about 40 trips (now about 5 trips) and it is still on.
1. Would my mistake with the parking brake cause that to go on?
2. "trip" is about how long? maybe I do 2 day, meaning I have to wait 20 days to = 40 trips before it would reset?
3. Is there a way to reset it, so if it comes on again, then maybe I have to take it in?
Driving with the brake on is not a good thing. This can cause other problems. It's good that you caught it early, however it was on long enough to set a code.
What you're going to need to do is take it to the dealership and have them connect a scan tool to your vehicle. They will be able to retrieve the code and diagnose the problem. Tell them what happened. They may just be able to clear the code and ask you to drive the vehicle to make sure it doesn't come back on. Most likely this is not going to go away on it's own. Unlike a loose gas cap, most other codes must be cleared with a scan tool.
Hope this helps.
