My 99 Corolla has developed a noise in right front over uneven road surface.I suspect the right strut. Can they become noisy as they wear out?Everything else appears fine in steering linkage.Sounds like a metal on metal noise. Thanks Mark

Mark,
Yes it does sound like a strut concern, and it could possibly be a strut mount condition. I would make sure that it is not just a strut mount concern before you go to replace the strut itself. A wheel bearing also will make a similar sound that generates that concern.
Mark Jones,
Yes, struts can make noises when they wear out. Also, bushings can wear out and even corrode away to nothing after time. If the bushing is missing or severely worn, you will hear a metal to metal sound. I would suggest bringing your car in to your technician where they can shake down the front end, and look to find any worn parts.
