I would find out what else they are doing besides the timing belt. You can get a timing belt and water pump done for around $500 I believe.
I would also guess that someone at some time did a timing belt on that vehicle. I've never heard of a timing belt lasting 215,000 miles.
It is up to you on how you want to deal with it, but that Honda could run for another 200,000 miles if you maintain it. I would check to see what else they are charging you for and then make your decision.
As for classes in California...I would check your local community college for adult education classes. This is usually the type of place that offers a class like this.
It's funny that you bring this up because that is my business, teaching women about automotive...however, I'm a long way from you in Philadelphia! Good luck in your search and with your Honda. They are great vehicles.
