I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and just had the emergency brake go out. I have called around to different car repair and dealerships but noone can give me a ballpark figure as to how much it would be to repair/replace. I understand this is a problem with the Jeeps and wondered who I could go to with the problem to get it resolved.

Dear Joyce,
I'm not sure why you are having a hard time getting an answer to this problem. The only thing I can think is that they would need to look at the vehicle to find out what the problem is.
The parking brake is mechanical and works by using cables to apply the brakes. If the cables are stretched or they break, then they need to be replaced. It's also possible that something actually broke at the brake rotor or drum.
I would suggest that you take it to a certified shop or dealership and let them diagnose the problem and then you should be able to get a price for the repair. Hope this helps.
