Hi,
I have a 2004 base kia rio, which I just got out of the dealership shop after seven weeks. The timing belt went out and they said they had to pretty much rebuild the engine. This is the second time something costly has happened. The other time about a year ago, the gear assembly had to be replaced. I have also had the window seals replaced twice.
I know it may seem obvious to just get rid of the car, but I hate getting into more debt and bigger payments. Do you think after all the work thats been done, I should take a chance and keep it? My feeling is to get rid of it now while its still running. I still owe money on it.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your answer revolves around what you want and what you can
afford. You could make a list on the right side of a sheet of paper with all
the reasons it makes sense to keep the car, and then make a list on the left
side of the same sheet of paper with all the reasons you want to get rid of it
and compare the two lists.
How much money do you owe on it? And can you roll this into
the loan on another vehicle. If you do this, make sure you get “Gap Insurance”
so if the vehicle gets in a wreck, you won’t owe anything on the loan.

It's hard to predict if you're going to have any problems in the future. Be sure to keep up on your scheduled maintenance. Refer to your owners manual if you have any questions. Timing belts usually do need to be replaced somewhere around 70 or 80 thousand miles, and that's before it breaks, which will be a lot less costly. The work you have had done should be warranted. Good luck on whatever you decide.
