I have a 1996 Cadillac Seville SLS and the interior lights are out. The fuse has been replaced three times and did not help. What are the most likely reasons for this problem? The dealer wants too much to correct it.

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jenny Trostel, Partner at Anderson of Hunt Valley Obviously it is not the fuse.  What did the dealer say was wrong with the lights?  Your vehicle is older and parts to wear out and need to be replaced.  The interior lights are similar to a lamp in your home.  Sometimes the bulb needs to replaced and sometimes the socket is bad.  If you are keeping the car, for your safety I would have the parts replaced.  Good Luck!

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Betty, It sounds like you have a short somewhere in your light circuit. Unless you had something installed on the vehicle recently, like an alarm system, you should find a shop with a technician that is good at electrical diagnosis. This problem needs to be taken care of by a someone who knows about electrical circuits. Lori
