I have a 2001 ford focus, my oil was low and the light came on, I had oil changed the next day. The light is still on, how do I reset it so it will go off?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jenny Trostel, Partner at Anderson of Hunt Valley There may be another reason why the oil light is on. Take your car to your service facility as soon as possible. If there is another problem and it is not repaired you might have serious engine problems. It might not be a problem, but don't wait. They can check the codes like Patty says and let you know. Better to be safe than sorry!

Patty Streeter, at Barbara, If it is the maintenance light, then most likely the technician didn't reset the light. It may be as simple as taking the vehicle back in and asking them to reset it. If there is still a problem, they can run their tester to see if a trouble code comes up. If you are concerned about trusting the technician you are seeing, try an ASE certified tech.
