Is it more financially prudent to consider buying a slightly used "program vehicle" than to buy a brand new one?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jenny Trostel, Partner at Anderson of Hunt Valley It depends on what you mean by a program vehicle. Do you mean a certified preowned vehicle or a company car? A certified preowned vehicle may have a longer warranty and may qualify for special rates. A company car may qualify for current incentives and programs but the warranty may be shorter if the car has mileage on it. Both options are good, but it depends on your needs and how long you plan to keep the car. Ask lots of questions when you go shopping. Good Luck!

Lacy Schwab, Service and Parts Director at Porreco Nissan Look at a program vehicle the same as a used vehicle. Make sure you request maintenance records and have a mechanic check it out before considering purchasing. Then compare the cost of maintaining a used vehicle vs. the cost of buying a new one based on your needs. Used vehicles are often good options if they are well maintained and can be more cost effective in many ways. Remember new cars depreciate immediately.
