HIGHS
Attractive update on classic S-types, handsome interior styling, smooth V-8s, supple ride quality, quiet at freeway speeds.
LOWS
Tight rear seat room, brakes prone to overheating and fade, overdue for a redesign.
WHAT'S NEW
Ultra-posh SV8 trim packge option for S-type R.
BEHIND THE WHEEL
Comfortable and smooth in high-speed cruising, excessive body roll limits the S-type’s responses.
CAPSULE REVIEW
The S-type is Jaguar’s middle sedan line, with engines ranging from a
3.0-liter V-6 to the R’s 400-hp supercharged 4.2-liter V-8. Launched in
1999 with styling derived from the mid-’60s S-types, the latter-day cat
has never quite kept pace with its German competition.
