My 2004 VW Jetta has 60k miles & 2 days ago the check coolant light came on. I checked the coolant & it was not below the proper level. Today the light came back on & coolant scented steam was coming from under the hood where the coolant tank is. I am going to a Napa auto parts shortly to get more coolant to add until I decide where to get it fixed or ...
I have a 2002 VW Jetta with a 2.0 4 cylinder engine and 72,000 miles. I just had the spark plugs and spark wires replaced at an independent mechanic. He told me that my timing belt needs to be replaced as soon as I can budget the money for it. I called VW and they tell me it can last until 90 - 105,000 miles! Who is telling me the truth? When ...
Just had 2002 Jetta 60K mile serviced and upon driving it away the brakes stopping at 30-40 MPH feel like a washboard. They did no brake repair!. Any idea?

I live in Illinois. We've had a not so fun winter with pot holes. A couple weeks ago, the piece of street that belonged in a pot hole was out in the middle of the road. I couldn't avoid hitting it without hitting other drivers so I had to run over it. Luckily, it only damaged my trunk. It made a hole just under the spare tire. it scratched up the spare tire ...

I have an 03 Jetta. I was not sure if I should have the oil change place replace my transmission fluid. They suggested it, but I was not sure if I really needed it. I have about 81k miles on it now.
Also, it made me wonder about tune ups...when should I do that? I don't think I have ever had either of these things done before.
I recently asked questions about a tune up and transmission, and Thank you for your quick responses.
I took my car in to an auto shop and they told me my transmission fluid was "lifetime". it never has to be changed? that sounded fishy to me. they said if something goes wrong I HAVE to go to the dealership.
what do you know about this? Nothing ...
A few weeks ago I had my brakes repaired and my exhaust replaced. Ever since my car has been back from the shop, The rear driver side tire area has been making a clicking/clacking sound related to how fast I'm driving (driving slower, clicks are further apart, etc...). It stops when I push the brake pedal, and it usually disappears once I am going over 40 ...
I would like to help out my daughter with a reliable car. She is almost done with college and lives in a bigger city and I worry about her not having a safe car. I see attractive lease deals like the VW "sign and drive" (0 down, $219/mo, 36 months). I have the money to purchase a $10-12,000 vehicle. So my question, am I better off leasing or ...
I went to jiffy lube for an oil change...if I need to add more oil to my car, how do I know which one to use? I did not choose any special oil so do I use reg oil? thanx!
I have a 2001 VW Jetta GL TDI. It has 130,000 miles. Recently it has been having episodes of not accelerating as normal. It comes and goes. The last time it happened it would not go over 30 mph with the gas pedal to the floor. The next day it ran fine. The dealership looked at it and said it needs to have the carbon build up removed and possible turbo ...
Dear Women! (hooray!)
My 1986 Jetta, diesel, 1.6, converted to run on grease a couple of years ago, has not been driven for 3 months. It will not start. It may be that fuel is not reaching the engine. I removed the fuel line from the part that the line comes out of immediately before it goes to the glow plugs (carburetor?), turned on the ignition and ...
My daughter is in a GM Smart Buy. There is 9 payments and approx 1,000 miles left on the Smart Buy. I am having a lot of problems with dealerships in my area, mostly male salesmen, who don't seem to want to negotiate with a woman and I did not find any on your website. Do you know of any female friendly dealerships in the Pittsburgh area?
My car sucks and is at the end of its long but troubled existence. How hard is it to donate a car to a charity? Do you really get any worthwhile tax breaks for doing it or is it just a scam?
Jetta SportWagen SE 2010 its a good car? $21,995 its a good price?
About Blue Devil Head Gasket sealant. Is the record of success as good for the 2000 Jetta 2.0 engine as it is for any other engine? I read that the smaller bottle was working good for a small engine and that it is not necessary to remove the thermostat. I guess you would want to warm it up so that the thermostat is open before installing the sealant. What ...
The malfunction indicator light on my Jetta dashboard has been going on for the past 6 months. I have taken it in to the shop at least 6x but the problem is never resolved. I have had a new catalytic converter put in, and yesterday a new thermometer but the light is on again! When the mechanic scanned for faults, four appeared: a problem with the cooling ...
How to replace a transmission gasket?
It started last night. Every time I lock my car the alarm goes on. Now I unlock to car and it self locks and the alarm goes off. What is going on?
The car windows all fog up when it's raining. Turning the vent higher and/or defrosting don't seem to fix the problem. What should I do?
Also, when very warm, there is a very unpleasant smell (like Ether) even when the car is turned off.
Thanks for your help!

My Volkswagen Jetta drivers seat is burning my butt! It get's really hot. What is the solution to it?
My beautiful black interior of my VW Jetta is something like leather (sort of synthetic I think). I use a sunscreen that has gotten on the steering wheel and other areas of the interior and a few places on the pretty silver exterior. It's the white residue from the sunblock filters zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. The manufacturer is Banana Boat.
A follow-up to my interior cleaning question for my Jetta with black faux leather interior. The expert suggested peanut butter to remove white stains from sunblock that has gotten on the door panel, steering wheel and a few other places.
I also have some water/detergent spots left on the inside door panel from a car wash (window was slightly open). Do ...

The Malfunction light just came on in my 2003 Volkswagen Jetta this morning, and I was wondering if I should be worried. I won't be able to take it to the mechanic until this weekend. Can I still drive it? I usually drive 20 miles each day to work.
Can you tell me whether the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta with a 2.5 liter, 5 cylinder gas engine, has a timing belt or a timing chain? I have seen about an equal amounts for each possible answer, and therefore am not getting any useful information. Help!
This is a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8L Turbo GLS model.
It will crank but will not start. This happened intermittently over a few week period of time. I had gone out and messed with it multiple times and got it to start multiple times. However, now it won't start almost no matter what I try. Before when I got it to start, I had cleaned out the spark plugs which ...
