Throughout the Detroit Auto show, the women of the automotive world stepped out in style. From the GM Style Event and the Urban Wheel Awards to the Charity Preview and the auto show itself, the women of the industry were outshining some of the cars!
The Charity Preview kicked off and the locals were shining bright. Some of the attendees included the Detroit mayor and the heads of all of the manufacturers. Tuxedos and formal evening wear was the theme of the evening. Kathy Wagoner (pictured left), wife of GM CEO Rick, looked classic in her sophisticated black dress. She even kidded around and posed for pictures with the Michelin man!
Our very own Ask Patty expert woman, Lorraine Shultz (also founder of the Women's Automotive Association International), attended the Charity Preview and has for years.
Strut Magazine covered the event and had this to say about Lorraine's long history in the industry: "Lorraine Schultz has attended the North American International Auto Show Charity Preview for more than 30 years, since the days when tickets to the glamfest were $50 and women at the show were often assumed to be someone’s wife or secretary." Lorraine is originally from the great city of Detroit and first started working in the auto industry in the 70s as vice president of marketing for the AutoLeather Guild of America.
“Women are making strides in this industry, and there are many outstanding leaders and role models,” says Schultz. “These gains, however, are being made slowly.” She also says that women are more adaptable and better at multi-tasking than men. It's great to see our own expert women at these glamorous events!
GM’s Style Event was stunning as well. This was were we saw Christian Slater, Vivica A. Fox, Mario Lopez, Petra Nemcova, and Cheryl Hines, to name a few. The stars strutted the catwalk with GM’s own famous members: their cars. NASCAR driver Nicole Lyons (pictured left), who also attended the Urban Wheels Awards, was all dolled up for the event. NASCAR drivers don't just wear their racing suits all the time!
The Urban Wheels Awards was hot and fashionable as well. Karen Payton (pictured left with Randi Payton) from On Wheels, Inc. stole the show in her beautiful cream dress. She was definitely turning heads as the automotive industry’s best dressed woman, and she is also a member of our Ask Patty panel of expert women!
Our ladies shined in Detroit, and we are bold enough to say they out-shined the all the vehicles everyone was there to see!
