Hey, It's Brake Safety Awareness Week!

Published Aug 27th 2007, 11:31pm by

In case you didn't already know, the Motorist Assurance Program has declared this (MAP) Brake Safety Awareness Week. "Taking care of your brakes is a critical part of keeping your vehicle safe," remarked Joe Cirelli, senior vice president of service at Pep Boys. "As we head into the fall season, now is an ideal time to seek a thorough brake inspection."

The Pep Boys -- Manny, Moe & Jack -- is participating in the event this week (August 26 through September 1, 2007) by offering informational brake safety brochures on their website at www.pepboys.com (you can also download it by clicking here).
The brochure includes informative information about how the components in your braking system make your car stop, and helpful tips for care and maintenance of your braking system. The brochure also includes a coupon for free brake inspections at a Pep Boys near you. Pep Boys has nearly 600 stores and over 6000 service bays in 36 states and Puerto Rico, so you should be able to find one somwehre nearby; you can also call 1-800-PEP-BOYS or visit pepboys.com.

Ap_brake_safety_illoPep Boys recommends drivers have their brake systems inspected, including all brake linings, hardware and hydraulics, if the last inspection occurred more than 15,000 miles or 12 months ago. The hydraulic system should be assessed for leaks and proper operation. "Sponginess" or "drop" in the brake pedal, a tendency for the car to pull to one side when braking, squealing noises coming from the brakes or a drop in the master cylinder's fluid level all can signify problems.

The Motorist Assurance Program MAP was formed in June 1992 by a group of service providers, manufacturers, associations and others who were concerned about the reputation of the automotive repair industry. MAP works to strengthen communication and trust between the industry and its customers. Learn more online at www.motorist.org.
