Julie Scroggins, CFO of Waukegan Tire & Supply Co., Inc. and an AskPatty Certified Female Friendly expert advisor, has founded a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Bcureful to focus resources on Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, or TSC. TSC is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 6,000 newborns causing non-malignant lesions to develop in the brain and other vital organs. Although the growths are almost always benign, they can cause devastating effects on multiple aspects of development. It’s estimated that 1 to 2 million people worldwide have TSC.

AskPatty CEO Jody DeVere serves on Bcureful’s Board of Directors, along with other volunteer board members from across the country. Bcureful’s mission is dedicated to accelerating research towards a cure of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex while raising public awareness of the disease. Research for TSC has led to breakthroughs in autism, epilepsy and some forms of cancer.

The second annual wine dinner fundraiser will be held on June 27 at the Deer Path Inn of Lake Forest, Illinois. The wine dinner will feature a menu specifically created by Chef Khellil and paired with wines from Parducci Winery, America’s Greenest Winery and the first U.S. Carbon Neutral Winery. Dr. Douglas R. Nordli, Head of the Epilepsy Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and Shea Vaughn, a health, wellness and fitness trainer, author, life coach and spokeswoman, will be guest speakers at the event. For more information and to purchase tickets to the wine dinner, visit http://www.Bcureful.org/events.

Mary Ann, the oldest daughter of Julie Scroggins—the founder of Bcureful, was diagnosed with TSC in 2009 with lesions in her brain and kidneys. Prior to her diagnosis Julie had never heard of TSC. Since her daughter’s diagnosis she has done and will continue to do all she can to raise money for research towards a cure. Her daughter Mary Ann sees her diagnosis as an opportunity to help others and hopes within her lifetime to see a cure.

Help support Bcureful’s efforts to increase awareness of this disease and accelerate research towards a cure by attending the fundraiser or making a donation.
