AskPatty is Thankful in November

AskPatty is Thankful In NovemberIt's November and between Child Safety Month, Movember, Drowsy Driving Awareness, and Thanksgiving, we have much to be thankful for. Please join us as we give support to the following important movements during November.

November is Child Safety Protection Month

National_Child_Passenger_Safety_Week-NHTSA_photoDuring November, many organizations will be sharing tips to ensure a safe environment for our children. While much of Child Safety Protection Month messaging promotes safety tips around the home, AskPatty reminds parents to always keep their children safely buckled up while riding in their car. It's especially important because motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 14 and under.

Do you know when it's safe for a child to use a seatbelt? You might think so, but 9 out of 10 are doing it wrong! Here’s an easy tip: A child needs to be at least 57-inches tall and between 80 and 100 pounds to ride with just a seat belt. Learn more here important information about seatbelts and booster seats at AskPatty.

Drowsy_Driving_Prevention_weekNovember 2nd Through 9th is Drowsy Driving Prevention Week.

Just like drugs or alcohol, sleepiness slows reaction time, decreases awareness, and impairs judgment. And just like driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, drowsy driving can be fatal. That's why November 2nd Through 9th is Drowsy Driving Prevention Week.

In a poll of drivers surveyed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 37% of drivers admitted to falling asleep at the wheel at some point in their driving career, and 8% admitted doing so in the past six months. I remember having a really hard time staying focused on my daily commute when my boys (now 21 and 12) were just babies, l so I personally appreciate this focus on drowsy driving.

The drivers at highest risk are third shift workers, people who drive a substantial number of miles each day, those with unrecognized sleep disorders, and those taking medication containing sedatives. FriendsAreWaiting-budweiser-dont_drink_and_driveThe Winter Holidays Are Coming, So Don't Drink And Drive!

AskPatty has a special fondness for adorable puppies, so we especially appreciated Budweiser's Super Bowl heartwarming commercial featuring a tale about the love between a yellow lab puppy and one of the beer brand's iconic Clydesdale horses. Building on that success, Budweiser  has brought us an adorable and loyal yellow lab for its latest hit ad, a PSA against drunk driving.

Here's the ad, which now has more than 19 million views:

Budweiser introduced the digital-only ad for "Global Be(er) Responsible" day, a campaign against drunk driving on September 19. According to Business Insider, http://www.businessinsider.com/budweiser-friends-are-waiting-2014-9 Budweiser says that the ad is targeted at 21-27 year-olds who share content with friends on social media. There's still much conversation trending about it under the "#FriendsAreWaiting" hashtag.

Wondering about the touching song that provides the video's narrative? You won’t find the song anywhere but in the Budweiser ad. According to BigFrog 104 http://bigfrog104.com/whats-the-song-in-budweisers-beer-responsible-day-commercial-video/ it’s not available for download because it’s not a full song. What you hear is all there is. The song ‘Friends Are Waiting,’ was written by Dan Rodriguez just for the commercial.

Following the success of Budweiser’s Super Bowl commercial featuring Passenger’s ‘Let Her Go,' which had success overseas but didn’t reach #1 in the U.S. until the commercial came out, Rodriguez may want to consider writing a full song and releasing it so fans can download it.

Next time you go out, be sure to make a plan to get home safely. Your friends are counting on you. Drink responsibly.

Movember-Testathon-GetInvolvedWhat's With Those November "Movember" Moustaches?

November also brings facial hair beneath the noses of the men we know and love as they commit to growing and supporting moustaches to raise funds and awareness for men's health. Maybe you've seen the moustaches and heard the term "Movember," but didn't know what the mustache movement was all about?

Mo Bros take action by changing their appearance by growing a moustache for the 30 days of Movember, to spark conversation and raise funds. Mo Sistas commit to supporting the men in their lives while helping to promote men’s health.

Knowledge is power. Prevention is everything. Early detection is key. Learn about the health issues men face and how Movember is having an impact on men’s health, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health problems, at the official Movember Foundation website

Happy November, AskPatty nation! We have much to be thankful for!
