AskPatty featured at Marketing Tom article: "Some Reasons Why Businesses Should Blog "

The Headline "TypePad Customers In The News " just caught my attention as I was about to open my TypePad account to write another article. The folks over there have come up with a brief list of weblogs that have hit the headlines over the past week.

Here are some good reasons why businesses should blog:

The New York Times ran a story about how small businesses are starting their online presence with blogs rather than Websites. The article includes an interview with Jody DeVere, the president of AskPatty.com, about her TypePad blog of the same name. In the article, DeVere says, "Our blog has been the driving force of our branding effort and become the way we find our readers and our customers."

It's always good to find new examples which reinforce why businesses should blog.

AskPatty in Whisper article "Branding By Blog "

From the "at this very moment as a viewer you are participating in a demonstration of the power of this idea" file.

A story from the New York Times illustrates how blogging can be a more powerful brand builder than public relations or advertising:

Putting a small business online used to be a relatively simple matter: buy the domain names that matched your company's identity, set up a Web server and send out a press release and a few e-mail messages. No more...

"We launched our company in May 2006 with a blog, not a Web site," said Jody DeVere, the president of AskPatty.com, an advice site that helps women find car showrooms and repair shops that are friendly to them. "Our blog has been the driving force of our branding effort and become the way we find our readers and our customers."

AskPatty at WomenCorp: "A Car Named Sally - and Breast Cancer Awareness"

One of our WomenCorp lifestyle authors, Jody DeVere, is a great example to us in how to balance family and career obligations, as well as service to others. Her most recent article in the WomenCorp magazine, in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, profiles the limited edition 2008 Pink Warrior Mustang. A portion of the sale proceeds of these cars goes to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Since we women are generally the ones to battle breast cancer (there actually are some men), please read this article, and then make me two promises.

AskPatty at SWWan: "Car-buying adventures for single women"

Take out the garbage. Clean up the dog puke. Nurse the baby. Order groceries (going to the actual grocery store is so last decade). Tell the nanny where the new formula is. Get an appointment with the doctor because you had a fever of 102 last night. Plan how to get to the doctor appointment before you go to work and how you'll find the time to buy a new car.

Whew. A not-unusual single hour in a typical single mom's day. But that buying a car thing, that's a challenge that takes a lot of preparation and research if you want to make a smart choice at a reasonable price and get through the process with minimal hassle. Our SWWAN partner, AskPatty.com, is collecting stories from women just like you and me about your car (love it? hate it? can't wait to get rid of it?) Go to CarBlabber to share yours.
