Auto enthusiasts will get their first look at the newest and hottest innovations from auto makers worldwide at the upcoming Northwood University International Auto Show September 28-30, 2007 at Northwood University's Midland, Mich. campus. The student-run show, now in its 44th year, is the largest outdoor auto show in North America and one of the largest shows of its kind in the world.
A V.I.P. event will open the show on Friday, featuring keynote speaker Dean Eisner, president and C.E.O. of Manheim, and a panel discussion with industry leaders and influencers, including Jamie Power from J.D. Power and Associates; Jody DeVere, President of AskPatty.com and Women's Automotive Association International; Don Reimondo of Affinia Group Inc.; Chip Perry, President and C.E.O. of AutoTrader.com and Darryl Jackson, V.P. of U.S. Sales for Chrysler.
Dubbed The Desire, The Drive, The Destination, the 2007 International Auto Show will reflect the ever-changing automotive culture and features more than 500 new domestic and import vehicles, including cars, trucks, vans, recreational and concept vehicles, plus an extensive aftermarket exhibit. The Sunday Classic Car Show on September 30 will feature more than 75 vehicles and over 20 historic Rolls-Royces. Here's a snippet from a promo for "Mad Men," the new TV series about ad agencies. One seasoned agency executive asks the other, "What do women want?" Who cares!" is the snarky reply. Well, I guess it's safe to say that "Mad Men" is not a reality show. No, it's a period piece, taking place during a time when advertisers didn't much care about what women wanted. And women make the buying decisions even in categories we've thought of as male-dominated. Like cars and motorcycles.
We've read in these pages about Palmetto Ford's wise initiative to hook up with AskPatty.com and make car buying a more female-friendly experience. Harley-Davidson has leapt into the fray as well.
That's the vision of Lyn St. James who was presented the Professional Achievement Award by the Women's Automotive Association International.
