Ask Patty Blog Carnival Week Around the Auto World: March 27

Published Mar 27th 2007, 8:09pm by

It's the last blog of March, and we've got lots of good news about women, a bit of sad news about men, and plenty more great stuff about the cars we all love to drive.

Ap_women_car_buying Consumer Reports' Liza Barth shares the facts:  Women car buyers mean business. It's a woman's car-buying world out there. Women purchase more than 46 percent of all new vehicles and influence over 80 percent of all automotive sales, according to a recent study by CNW Marketing Research (CNW). That adds up to about $80 billion worth of business, according to a past female buyer study by Road & Travel. Car dealers, hear us roar.

There is nothing in a woman's purse worth dying for. This bit of common sense and many others were shared when Debra Perry, legal advocate for the South Suburban YWCA, hosted an audience-participation seminar on women's safety. Find out more at

Robert_e_petersen Motor Trend Executive Editor Matt Stone says goodbye to publishing icon Robert E. Petersen in his Maximum Strength car blog, saying "No single individual had more impact on automotive publishing than Robert E. "Pete" Petersen. Please consider this blog as my own personal goodbye to a man of amazing accomplishment.  Without him, the car business, and my life, would not be the same.  Thanks Mr. Petersen -- Pete - I'll miss you, sir.  And so will anyone else who's ever read a car magazine."

Six kids make their mom one promise. "Mom, one day, when we're rich, we'll buy you a Yellow Mercedes." Well, we're not rich (except in love), and it's not a Mercedes - but a car that looks just like her first car, and actually runs well is even better. Join in the fun as this blogger tells the
tale of the red MG convertible the family is restoring for their mom.  Mother's day is barely a month away...

Ap_melissa Blogger Melissa says she "is just a normal person trying to get by in my every day life."
