I'm replacing the timing belt. I took head off make sure wasn't warped or no damage, but when I put it back on, I forgot to line up the timing marks. Is it okay if I turn it while it's on the motor or do I need to take it back off?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Brandy Schaffels, Editor at AskPatty.com, Inc. You absolutely do not want to run the engine if the timing is not properly set. The timing determines everything about how your engine runs!

Two of the biggest things that really affect the way an engine runs are valve timing and ignition timing. Minor variations in either one can make an engine run poorly, but if it's significantly off, you could damage your engine upon startup.
