I just had to have the torque converter replaced in my 1999 Mercury Sable, what kind of fluid should I use, and how much does it hold?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at Motorcraft MERCON V Automatic Transmission Fluid

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive The transmission on this vehicle calls for Mercon V. They system holds roughly 13 -14 quarts of fluid. Start with 10 quarts and check the fluid level (vehicle running and in park/neutral). When it shows close to full, drive it around the block and recheck the fluid level.

Maryann Croce, Owner at Croce’s Transmission Specialists Hi Lyndon, On your 1999 Mercury Sable: MERCON V fluid is recommended. 13.5 quarts is the capacity. Good Luck!
