I replaced the fuel filter/fuel pump in my 2001 TOyota Celica. The car starts, but fuel is running too rich, and it smokes. Is there a sensor I should be looking at replacing?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Gail Dunn, Owner at Women's Automotive Connection Norma You did not say what color the smoke coming from your car is. It can run from white to black. There are many reasons from burning too much oil (or leaking oil) to a clogged fuel system. In either case, you should address the problem with a repair shop you trust in your area. The longer something like this goes on, the bigger the problem can become.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at There's probably something else going on. If there's a check engine light on you could have that scanned for free to see why it's running rich. Could be a sensor, I'd take it back to the shop that replaced the fuel pump & have them see what's going on.
