Ursula, I recommend you have your serpentine belt and belt tensioners inspected. You may have cracked worn belt that can cause a squealing when riding on your idler pulley.

A loud squeaking noise near the fan when you start your Durango COULD be a loose fan belt.
I recommend you take it to your auto repair shop and check it out for you. It may just need to be tightened.

Hi Ursula, On your 1999 Durango: The noise you hear may be from a loose or worn belt. A local shop will be able to road test your vehicle and determine where the noise is coming from. Good Luck.
