If you have a dual over head cam engine, you have two chains, typically call for replacement at 90k miles. I would call you local dealership to verify as this may vary.

I believe your 2000 Mercury Sable has a timing chain.
Check your owners manual to make sure.
If it is a timing chain, you don't need to change it unless it becomes damaged or breaks.

Hi George, On your 2000 Mercury Sable, I believe your vehicle has a timing chain. No scheduled maintenance is necessary. No need to change a timing chain unlike a timing belt. If you're having the motor rebuild, timing chain replacement may be recommended at that time. We've haven't experienced the need to change a timing chain on Mercury Sable. Good Luck.
