Recently I purchased a 89 Jeep comanche 4 cylinder 2.5 l engine 5 speed manual 73k. Runs well cold but after it warms up it Boggs, stutters, chokes, and fails to respond to the gas pedal. Tops out at 40 to 50 when this happens. The idle will drop very low when I pull to a quick stop and sometimes it dies. Otherwise, the idle rests reasonably well at around 1000 rpm. If left for a few minutes to cool it will run strong again.

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Nolan, Your description sounds like a possible idle air control valve failure.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at Sounds like it may need the timing adjusted. A lot of shops will give you a diagnosis for free if you call around.
