The CARB requirements for vehicles sold in the state of California differs from EPA requirements in the rest of the states. Usually, there are additional components to reduce emissions out of the tail pipe, including the use of additional oxygen sensors and an additional catalytic converter. Other components may also be added or slightly different on the California models compared to the same model not approved for sale in the state of California.
