You may have a heat shield that is loose and rattling on the underside around your exhaust pipe or catalytic converter. Its worth having your car inspected during your last oil change.

It could be as simple as one of the heat shields on your exhaust has come loose and you hear it rattling.

That could be SOOO many things. If & when you take it in, make sure you're very specific about the noise; when does it happen, what's the RPM's, do you hear it more often when it's cold or around turns, etc.

Many things can cause a rattle. I would start by having the exhaust heat shields checked.

Lisa, On your 2004 Nissan Maxima, A rattle noise can mean that something is loose on your vehicle. Could possible be a exhaust shield. They tend to rot out or loosen up over time. A road test will help a technician determine what kind of noise it is. They may also want to inspect the vehicle under a lift. Good luck.
