My gear shift "sticks". When I try to shift from Park to any other gear, it either doesn't move or I feel as though I have to almost break it or force it tremendously to do so. I had my transmission fluid changed, it needed to be done anyway and I was told that would make it stop. Well it hasn't the sticking happens on and off now instead of all day like it did before my transmission fluid was changed. Please help! I don't want to be stuck somewhere because of this.
You may need to have the linkage (shift cable) inspected from your shifter to transmission, Because at times this can bind and cause the drivability concern you are describing. To pin point where the problem lies, ask a repair facility to disconnect the shift cable at the transmission end under the vehicle, it pops of the transmission shift lever easily with a screwdriver. Then move the shifter, if still binding, it most likely is your cable or the shifter. Then disconnect the cable at the shifter and move the shift lever, if the shift lever moves freely replace the cable.
Hope this Helps!
