I'm looking to buy a new car. What features make a car dog-friendly or dog-safe?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Brandy Schaffels, Editor at AskPatty.com, Inc. If you will be transporting a pet, you want to be sure your vehicle has adequate room for your pet carrier to be safely installed and strapped down to prevent sliding around in the cargo area or back seat. If you are not using a carrier, then ensure you have good seat covers to protect your interior against dog fur and nails, and always be sure to be using a safe pet harness or other restraint system to keep your pet safe in case of accident. In the best-case scenario, you may also want to ensure the vehicle's ventilation system will provide adequate circulation (heating and cooling) for your pet, wherever your pet may travel: Back seat, way-back cargo area, or front passenger seat: If "Fido" will be spending much time there, you want to be sure he will be safe and comfortable.

Christina Selter, Pet Safety Lady at Bark Buckle UP Hello Jane, some of the features are full curtain airbags in vehicles like crossovers and SUV's. Also the more d-rings for securing items and pets so they don't become a projectile.
