I had my clutch replaced on my 01 Hyundai Elantra. Since it has been cold, my clutch is very hard to engage and it disengages very slow even while driving. I do allow the car to warm up before driving at a min of 15 minutes and it is still hard if not harder while driving.

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Brielle, Your clutch operation should not be a direct relation to the ambient air temperature. I would contact the repair facility who replace your clutch and voice your concern. Have them double check the operation for optimum performance.

Audra Fordin, Owner at Great Bear Auto Shop Dear Brielle, Your car is fuel injected and does not have to be warmed up before driving. It sounds like you need to make a return visit to the shop where the new clutch was installed. I think you are having trouble with the replacement parts and the repairs need to be checked. Mechanically yours, Audra www.womenAUTOknow.com

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Brielle, It's possible that there is a problem with your clutch master cylinder. This would not be something that is replaced with a clutch job. I would suggest that you take it back to the shop that did the clutch and let them diagnose it. Kerri Papajohn, Marketing Director at USA Sealants, Inc. From what you describe, the installation of the clutch assembly was not done correctly. Most likely the splines on the transmission input shaft were not lubricated properly or not at all. This would cause the clutch disc to hang up on the input shaft resulting in difficulty of clutch engagement and clutch drag. You say it "disengages very slow while driving." If you mean that the clutch slips when underway, this means the clutch is not engaging fully. This can be caused by a damaged flywheel, or failure to machine the flywheel as needed when the clutch was replaced. It can also be caused by an improperly machined flywheel.
