I have a 2007 HHR with 42,000 miles. When I drive the car with just 2 people in it and I apply the brakes everything seems ok. I had 4 people in the car and when I applied the brakes to stop the front end has a bad shimmy.
You can have a number of variables to this situation, but one of the more likely may be that you simply had more weight, or your brakes may have heated up in a stop and go situation that may have caused a little reverberation in the steering wheel when you stopped.

Hy there T,
I have some ideas. Pay attention to see if the shimmy happens at a specific speed. Is there a sound associated with it? Without looking at your car I would be just guessing. I do not want to steer you in the wrong direction. Anytime we are talking "brake related", it is imperative you have your car checked! My best suggestion is to check out the askpatty.com site for a shop in your area. They will be able to look at whats going on and help you.

Take your car to a qualified brake place. If you have never had your brakes done - you may need new ones.
