On Feb 8th, Frances, owner of a Chevrolet Blazer, asked Patty:
I have a 97 Chevy Blazer and the ABS light is on. I have had it looked at and there seems to be nothing wrong. What can make an ABS light come on.

Hi Frances! There are many things that can cause an ABS light to come on. Anything from being low on brake fluid to an internal failure of the control module (or brain) for your ABS system. If the light is on there should be a fault stored in the computers memory. A shop with the proper scan tools should be able to plug in and read that information for you. If there are no faults stored or they are not able to communicate even with the right scan tool than there is likely a problem with the module itself. Because the ABS ystem involves your brakes, the problem could potentially be a safety issue. I would definitly have them take a closer look or go somewhere for a second opinion. Also most cars disable the ABS when there is a fault in the system so know that you may not have ABS as long as the light is on. Good luck! Hello Frances- the light being on is usually one of the wheel sensors- someone with the capability to scan the ABS system can tell you which one of the wheel sensors it is- hope this helps- thanks Super Girls Auto.

Frances, An ABS light will illuminate for a number of either electrical or mechanical reasons. I would suggest bringing your vehcile to a qualified technician that can perform a visual and internal examination to find the problem and correct it. Suzanne

Dear Frances, The ABS light comes on to let you know there is a problem with the ABS system. Unfortunately you won't know what the problem is unless you have a technician hook up a diagnostic scan tool to read the code. Once they read the code then you'll have a better idea of what needs to be done to fix the problem. It's also important to note that your regular brakes are not affected if the ABS system is not working. Find a shop that has the proper diagnostic tool to read the code before making any repairs.
