My ABS warning light comes on then car starts shutting down while driving. but turn off car and then restart and its driving okay for awhile than does it again. Is it the electrical or alternator or battery.
Your ABS light stands for (Anti Lock Brake System) so we do have a brake system issue. As with your drivability concern when this light comes on, you may need to have your wheel sensors tested they may have an electrical short causing your ABS light to come on. In turn this may be shutting your car down from the ECU (main computer) as a safety feature.

I don't think there is a one good answer. Checking the battery and charging system would be a good place to start. There is no direct reason that the illumination of the ABS light would cause the engine to shut off. It is just a symptom of another problem most likely. I Don't think you can avoid a visit to your technician to run some diagnostics. Good Luck and have a great holiday!

Hello Kim- best guess on this is an electrical issue probably computer (ECM) as Volkswagen's are notorious for this type of problem- you can try getting the car scanned & it may show the problem- hope this helps - thanks Super Girls Auto.
