The air conditioner on my 93 Regal is not working. Last year my mechanic noticed a cracked hose, fixed it, and it worked. This year, we checked the hoses, they are fine, he says it's not engaging when I turn it on. Another friend suggests getting an air conditioner free-on kit for 60.00 from Canadian Tire. What do you think? Thanks,
By your mechanic stating that "its not engaging" he is implying that the clutch on the a/c compressor is malfunctioning. This will cause the a/c not to operate. When you replace a compressor, it is HIGHLY recommended that you also replace the orifice tube and the accumulator in the system, this is a small directional screen that collects metal particles when a compressor becomes faulty, and a canister. If you fail top replace this screen and canister then you will be cycling these metal particles throughout a new compressor.
