My car makes a clanking sound when I to to make a sharp turn; like into a parking spot. Wide, gradual turns are okay. What could be wrong with my steering to make this clanking sound? Almost like something is popping in/out of place?
Great description - you are probably right that something is popping in and out of place. It sounds like you are describing either a worn ball joint (if the popping noise happens only once while turning) or a worn cv joint (if the noise sounds like a series of popping noises as you turn into the parking spot.
In either case I would have it checked out. Both if left unattended can get worse an potentially (especially if its the cv joint) leave you stranded.
Hope that helps!
