I am looking into leasing a Volkswagen Passat, either a new 2008 or a 2009. Do you have any advice about the reliability of this car?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jennifer Streets, Director of Marketing at Swapalease.com Erica, After reading some review online from Edmunds and JD Power and Associates the 2008 Volkswagen Passat received an excellent rating in terms of reliability. JD Power rated it a 9out of 10 in this category. The Passat comes equipped with a basic warranty covering four years or 50,000 miles, and there is a five-year/60,000-mile power train warranty as well. They has not been much posted for the 2009 as of yet in term of the reliability rating. Jennifer Streets Swapalease.com

Georgia Brown, Director of Education at National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) Erica, I have not driven a Passat, so I can*t speak from personal experience. I have owned 4 VW Beetles and was very pleased with my old used 1958, the 2000 New Beetle and my 2005 Beetle. We were not as pleased with the 2006*electrical issues and traded it for a small SUV because we needed a larger car.The other three were great VW products. I have only known 2 people who have owned Passats. One bought a used 2005 and had problem after problem. The other bought hers new*a diesel and loved it. She commuted 60 miles a day to work and said she*d never drive anything else. If you have a private mechanic you trust, you might ask him/her if there*s seem to be any reoccurring issues with the Passat. Good Luck! Georgia Brown NIADA
