I had a question about car seat/booster seat safety. My son is 2 1/2 and big for his age. He weighs 32 lbs and he is over 3 feet tall. His car seat says up to 40 lbs is fine, but his shoulders are coming above the highest shoulder strap now and that is not safe. I know there are booster seats for kids as small as 30 lbs, but he seems so young for a booster. He fits in one properly and the shoulder strap is across his chest like it should be. I just want to know what will be safest for him. I also worry that at 2 1/2 he may try wiggling out of the seatbelt as it is not as confining as a 5 point harness. Thanks for any help.

Breanne Boyle, Contributing Editor at AskPatty.com Alia, What is best is the seat that fits him. The straps need to be safe. If he was 5 years old and the same size you would feel better about putting him in it correct? I would check with your local law enforcement or fire department to see if they have a class or free booster/car seat fitting seminar to get a proper fit.
