Our 1997 gas guzzling Jeep Cherokee is in need of $1450 of repairs (Power steering pump broke and took with it the fan belt, which in turn took out a bracket and a bolt which spun out and got lodged in the engine.). We drive a lot, and I end up spending about $10 in gas a day commuting. I fill the car up every 6 days. The questions are: Is it worth it to repair the car or do we find a way to trade it in and buy a new, more fuel efficient car. And if we do get rid of the car, what's the best thing to do with it? Fix it and sell? Have it towed somewhere? (We don't want to buy another Jeep or Chrysler.) What car would you recommend for a family of 4 (two very young in car seats) who commute pretty far every day? Thank you!

Donna Burmeister, Service Manager at Classic Nissan You could donate the jeep, take the write-off. I wouldn't fix it, it's 12 yrs old. As for recommending a vehicle, there's a lot out there to consider, you'll need to go by your price range.
