My brakes seem overly sensitive. They almost lock up, and the tires seem to skid one or two feet before stopping the vehicle. I thought it was from sand on the road, but there was no sand the second time it happened.

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Suzanne Grego, Technician at City of Philadelphia Fleet Management Monica, This is a pretty dangerous situation. You most likely just need to have your brakes adjusted. I suggest you have your vehicle looked at as soon as possible to get this corrected. If you don't, not only could it cause you to have an accident, but it will put extra wear on your brakes and tires and will definitely cost you more money if you don't get this problem fixed now.
