I have a question. My daughter has a 1996 Ford Contour GL. The car has a four cylinder, sixteen valve 2.0 L Zetec 14 engine. Recently, the "Check Engine" light has been coming on, and she doesn't know why. Everything has been checked out, and everything's OK. Do you have any idea what could be going on?
You can go to your local auto parts store who offer a free diagnostic check. They can tell you why your check engine light is on. It will set a code in the main computer with a description of the malfunction.

When you say that everything was checked out, does that mean you had a technician check for codes with a scan tool?
When that light comes on it stores a code to tell the technician what is wrong. It is then the job of the technician to make a diagnosis and repair the problem.
If you get the code and want to know what it means, you can e-mail us back with the make, model, year and the code and we can tell you what it means.
