I financed a car for my soon to be ex husband and he is the co-buyer. can I take my name of the paper work and just leave his name on the finance papers?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jenny Trostel, Partner at Anderson of Hunt Valley In order to remove your name from the financing agreement, you must refinance the car. Contact the lender to make arrangements to remove your name from the loan and the title of the car. You will be responsible for the loan until it is refinanced in his name.

Jessie L Thatcher, F&I and Sales Specialist at Reynolds and Reynolds Company (Retired) The only way for you to get your name off of the loan is to have him refinance the loan in his own name. You remain liable for the loan as long as the original loan is in force. Even if the court states he is liable for the payment, if he would default you would be liable for the repayment.
