I hit a traffic cone and dragged it for a bit. My car got me home 35 miles but the next day when starting it wanted to stall out and there is a loud squealing from the engine along with the smell of burning rubber.

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Cory, I would pop the hood and take a look at the drive belts. You may have damaged the belt when you hit the cone. AJ Pierce

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Cory, It's hard to say without seeing the vehicle. You should have a shop look at it so that you don't cause more damage. It's possible that the smell is from the rubber of the cone getting burned onto the exhaust and it will just need to burn off. The loud squealing from the engine could be a belt noise, but again, it would need to be looked at. Lori Johnson
