I was in an accident and the front and rear crumple zones have been smashed. If these areas are stretched back, will the car be as safe as it was originally? I have read reports that say it'll never perform as it was intended when it was new.
I am not aware of the term "stretched back"
I would never rely on damaged equipment, and yes I would say original body parts do not perform to peek operation after impact...I would replace damaged items.

When a vehicle is in an accident and gets appraised, if it cannot be fixed to the point of being safe, then it will be totaled.
If your vehicle was not totaled, then they feel that parts can be replaced safely. Make sure that a reputable shop does this work and you should be fine.
